Pack 850 depends on the participation of volunteers to ensure the best experience for all of our scouts. As scouts move up through the ranks, parents also graduate to the next level of scouting. It is critical that a new cohort of parents is ready to pick up the baton and keep the engine going.

Committee Chair

The Committee Chair is one of the Pack’s key leaders, serving as the chief organizer and primary advocate for the program. This role oversees Pack operations, delegates responsibilities, manages annual planning & paperwork, and works closely with the Cubmaster to ensure a strong program. The position typically requires 4-6 hours per month and involves attending meetings, completing leader training, and recruiting future leaders. As Committee Chair, you’ll help shape the Pack’s schedule, support its success, and make a lasting impact on kids in your community.

Cubmaster

As the Pack’s most visible leader, the Cubmaster is the heart of the program and the primary advocate for the scouts. This role focuses on creating fun & meaningful Pack meetings, supporting & motivating Den Leaders, and working with the Committee Chair to plan the year’s program. Typically requiring 6-8 hours per month. The Cubmaster leads with energy, communication, and a bit of goofiness, bringing joy to the kids while guiding the Pack forward. It’s a chance to make a lasting impact, shape the Pack’s schedule, and share in the laughter and excitement of scouting.

Assistant Cubmaster (Cubmaster-in-training)

The Assistant Cubmaster supports the Cubmaster in leading Pack meetings and activities, stepping in as needed to keep the program running smoothly. Typically requiring 4-6 hours per month (September-June), this role helps plan Pack events, maintain order at meetings, and share in the fun of creating memorable experiences for scouts. Whether serving as the Cubmaster’s right-hand leader or joining in the goofiness, Assistant Cubmasters play an essential part in delivering a positive, engaging program for scouts.

Den Leader

The Den Leader is the primary adult contact for a small group of scouts, typically 4-8 per den, providing guidance, support, and fun throughout the year. This role requires 6-8 hours per month (August-June) and includes leading Den meetings, facilitating advancement activities, organizing field trips and crafts, and preparing scouts for Pack events. As a Den Leader, you’ll have a direct, positive impact on scouts, help them grow in skills and confidence, and share in the laughter, songs, and adventures of Scouting.

Assistant Den Leader

The Assistant Den Leader supports the Den Leader in guiding a small group of scouts, typically 4-8 per den, helping with meetings, activities, and advancement. This role requires 4-6 hours per month (August-June) and includes assisting with Den meetings, field trips, crafts, and preparing scouts for Pack events. As an Assistant Den Leader, you’ll help create a fun, engaging environment, support scouts’ growth, and share in the adventures, and laughs, of Scouting.

New Member Coordinator

The New Member Coordinator is the welcoming face for families new to the Pack, guiding them through registration, uniforms, Scoutbook, and their first events. This role, requiring about 2-4 hours per month (August–March), ensures parents feel connected, informed, and excited to be part of Scouting. It’s a great fit for someone friendly, responsive, and community-minded.

Treasurer

The Treasurer oversees the Pack’s finances, managing the budget, tracking expenses, and keeping accurate records. This role typically requires 2–4 hours per month, with extra time during re-chartering in the fall. Responsibilities include collecting dues, maintaining the Pack’s bank account, approving expenditures, and providing regular financial reports. As Treasurer, you’ll play a key part in ensuring the Pack remains financially healthy and sustainable.

Advancement Coordinator

The Advancement Coordinator manages all awards and achievements for the Pack, keeping records up to date in Scoutbook and helping Den Leaders track advancement. This role typically requires just a few hours each month (September-May), including ordering and organizing awards for Pack meetings and supporting leaders with training. It’s a great way to get to know the scouts personally, celebrate their accomplishments, and make recognition moments fun & memorable with awards, trophies, and ribbons.

Popcorn Kernel

The Popcorn Colonel leads the Pack’s annual popcorn sale, our biggest fundraiser that supports camping, activities, and equipment. This role, active August through November, typically takes 4-6 hours per month (with busier times during kickoff and distribution). Responsibilities include setting sales goals, organizing the kickoff, coordinating online & in-person sales, managing inventory, and tracking orders, prizes, and proceeds. As Popcorn Colonel, you’ll play a vital role in funding Scouting adventures while helping Scouts build responsibility, teamwork, and money management skills.

Secretary

The Secretary keeps the Pack organized by recording and sharing minutes from monthly leadership meetings (August-June). This role requires about 2 hours per month and involves working with the Committee Chair to set and distribute meeting agendas. It’s a great fit for someone detail-oriented who enjoys staying “in the know” and helping the Pack run smoothly behind the scenes.

Activity Coordinator

The Activity Coordinator helps bring the “outing” to Scouting by organizing Pack events such as Winter Camp, Spring Family Camp, and conservation projects. This role typically requires 4-6 hours per activity (August-June) and involves identifying opportunities, coordinating event leads, handling logistics and parent questions, and serving as a point of contact with outside organizations. As Activity Coordinator, you’ll play a key role in creating some of the most exciting and memorable experiences Scouts will have.

Pack Trainer

The Pack Trainer ensures all leaders are fully trained and ready to provide a safe, high-quality program. This role, requiring 1-2 hours per month (August-June), focuses on sharing training opportunities, tracking leader progress, and confirming that events are led by trained adults. As Pack Trainer, you’ll help maintain a strong, safe, and successful Pack by supporting adult leaders in their growth and preparedness.
